Meet Dr. Davant

Thomas S. Davant, VI, D.M.D., M.S.

Dr. Thomas Davant is a native of Northeast Columbia and attended elementary, middle and junior high in the Northeast before graduating from Spring Valley High School in 1981. After graduating from the University of South Carolina with his undergraduate degree in Chemistry, he went on to the Medical University of South Carolina, where he served as president of the Student Dental Association his junior year and president of the entire student body his senior year. He earned his Doctor of Medical Dentistry Degree at MUSC in 1988. He then attended and graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, where he received his Master of Science degree in Orthodontics in 1990. Also in 1990, Dr. Davant was honored with the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Award from Northwestern University for his study of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). This was later published in the September 1993 issue of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Davant served as a member of the Craniofacial/Cleft Palate team that works with children with dentofacial anomalies. He is a member of the Central District Dental Association, South Carolina Dental Association, Southern Association of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, and the Jackie Thurman Study Club, and past president of the Southern Association of Orthodontists and South Carolina Director of the SAO.

He and his wife, Kim, have two children: a son, Thomas VII, and a daughter, Taylor. Dr. Davant volunteers at the Richland County Children’s Dental Clinic. During his leisure time, he enjoys hunting, fishing and golfing.
